What do I need to do to get an environmental certificate for my project?

Submit your application to ZEMA, together with a feasibility study, business plan or concept note explaining the scope of your project. Based on this information, the ZEMA will make a decision on the level of environmental assessment you will need to undertake, and which procedure applies.

Do I need approval to construct a wall to protect against beach erosion at my house/hotel?

Yes, you need approval. You will need to submit an official application to ZEMA and other institutions like Commission of Land. ZEMA will organize a site verification to the site, in consultation with other stakeholders, in order to collect their concerns, views and advice on your intention.

I have outdated products and I want to dispose of them. What can I do?

The Zanzibar Environmental Management Authority, in consultation with different stakeholders, will come to inspect the products, to determine its quantity, and decide how to proceed.
